The three checkered lines are a simplified version of an intricate design found on many Lao textiles, including those commonly hanging in Buddhist temples.
-
This indigenous design would typically be woven in 4-6 colors, span the length of the scarf, and include other elements, like dragons, rivers, and fish.
-
This fair trade scarf takes approximately one full day of weaving if the artisan does not have to tend to rice fields and other domestic duties.
