One of the softest scarves in our collection of hand-crafted fair trade scarves, the Mekong Fair Trade Scarf is woven in a small women’s cooperative on the outskirts of the Laos capital of Vientiane.
-
Made of 100% silk, each scarf is embedded with the artisans’ hopes and dreams as its woven on hand-powered looms.
-
A minimalist design of parallel lines makes its way across each end of the scarf, topped by a row of small indigenous Lao “diamonds.”
-
You’ll love the natural sheen emblematic of this type of Lao silk, found in the inner part of the cocoon.
A beautiful woman and very talented weaver.

This design is a co-creation by our founder, Gianna Driver, and the women artisans.
-
These “lines” can be found on a number of tapestries found in Buddhist monasteries throughout the country.
-
The row of small Lao diamonds above the parallel lines was inspired by diamonds found on designs in villages in Bolikhamsay province.
-
The lavender color is derived by boiling the leaves of indigo plants found near the cooperative.
