• The diamond motifs have their origins in ancient Laotian culture, symbolic of the omniscient "Third Eye" that sees and knows all things.
• You can find similar diamond-like patterns on ancient wall hangings in Buddhist monasteries throughout Laos.
• Natural Dye: Berries.
• Many Laotian families create trellises near their homes to encourage the growth of native berry vines.
• The berries were first recognized as a complement to bamboo soups, adding a bit of tangy sweet to salty soups. Over time, villagers realized that the berries stained their hands and clothing, which began an exploration into using the berries to dye garments.
• GIANNA uses this same process today to dye the Diamond Shawl.
