A mere 20-years old, Pohne comes from a poor farming family living in the remote villages near Houa Moung.
-
Pohne is the second child of seven and finished fourth grade before stopping to help out with her family's farm.
-
She learned to weave from her aunt at around age ten.
-
Recently married in 2007, Pohne is grateful for all life has given her-a wonderful husband, economic security, and a chance to do work she really loves-weaving!
-
"I feel quite secure now. Thank you for making this possible."
Pohne is originally from the northern part of Laos and migrated to the outskirts of Vientiane in 2003.
-
The primary reason for Pohne's move was find work near the capital city that would help support her parents and six siblings.
-
Even before moving to Vientiane, Pohne was weaving traditional Lao skirt borders and attempting to sell them at the famed Morning Market.
-
Living frugally, she was able to send most of her meager earnings home.
-
Pohne married Bounthavy in 2007 and considers herself so lucky to have a good husband and a "happy-lucky" job.
Unlike many of her peers, Pohne is a woman who only pauses for a moment before smiling and eagerly sharing her dreams.
-
"My dream is to be able to continue to help my parents to support my brothers and sisters to finish high school."
-
Pohne dreams of helping her family have enough money so that they can spend leisure time together without constantly working.
-
In the future, once she has more financial stability, Pohne would like to have a family of her own.
Weaving has taken away the sense of urgency to find money and opportunity.
-
Pohne's earnings, combined with those of her husband's, allow them to save a small amount each month that will be spent on a new home in the future.
-
Despite asking about her personal dreams, Pohne told us that she dreams about continuing to help her parents support her younger brothers and sisters so they can finish school.

Pohne's learning about natural dyeing and the importance organic, natural dyes have in our environment.
